IPOH: Residents of Zone B and Zone C of Taman Meru 2C placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for 14 days from Nov 20 are calm and fully prepared to ensure the Covid-19 outbreak in their area can be contained.
Checks found that many residents were following developments closely, including observing in detail how the Armed Forces personnel installed barbed wires around the housing area yesterday afternoon.
A senior citizen Robakyah Alwi, 63, said she accepted the government’s directive which prohibits residents’ movement in and out of the area for the sake of safety and health of all parties.
The mother of five said she was thankful that she would be accompanied by her husband, their second son and two granddaughters throughout the duration of the EMCO.
“My other children also keep reminding me to take care of myself and adhere to the standard operating procedures to avoid being infected with Covid-19.”
Robakyah who was seen wearing a pink wristband was also grateful because her swab test turned out negative but nonetheless expressed concern if daily necessities and food would be sufficient.
She hoped there would be enough items supplied for the affected residents they were not allowed to go out during the EMCO period.
Meanwhile, another resident, civil servant Munawir Shah Badarudin, 56, said he was thankful that his family tested negative for Covid-19.
“I hope the outbreak in this area would end soon because during EMCO, my wife and I can’t go to work,” he said, adding that he was very scared of the current situation in his housing area.
The government imposed the EMCO in the two localities, which comprised 572 houses and 2,288 residents, following an increase of Covid-19 cases.
As of Nov 16, a total of 938 screening tests were conducted in Zone B and Zone C of Taman Meru 2C, of which 76 people tested positive.
