The Winds of Winter is the sixth book in a seven-part series, which began with A Game of Thrones. Since then, Martin’s stories have become some of the most famous in the world, mainly due to the adaptation, Game of Thrones. However, the latest book has been a long time coming, and fans are desperate to read it.
On his website, Not A Blog, George RR Martin regularly updates fans with news at to his new releases, whether that is A Song of Ice and Fire related or based on others of his works.
Not long ago, he even shared with fans what he was up to in lockdown, which left many of them very excited.
He posted: “If there is a silver lining in these clouds, this will give me more time to finish WINDS OF WINTER.
“I continue to write every day, up here in my mountain fastness.”
This made fans really excited, however, fans may remember some even more exciting news, which was that George RR Martin promised to fans he would present the manuscript at WorldCon at the end of July.
He was named the Master of Ceremonies at Worldcon, a science fiction convention which takes place annually in countries all over the world.
This year an airline even offered Martin free air-fare to their country so he could finish The Winds of Winter in peace.
However, in a blog post, Martin replied to this, saying: “If I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon 2020, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.
Asked whether the book will meet its deadline of Worldcon, the expert replied: “No. The final stage of editing is when he submits his final manuscript to his editors.
“When he finished A Dance With Dragons in March 2011, he immediately announced it.
“He hasn’t said anything besides that he’s still working on it every day up in his cabin w/ good and bad days of writing.”
While fans can rejoice about the book being available this year, it may be later in the year than previously thought.
