PETALING JAYA: MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon has set up the #KITA Public Forum with hopes to provide a platform to embrace Malaysia’s diverse opinions.
Chong said the public forum is expected to expand on the opinions inside and outside the party, the ambit of policy discussions and incorporate more rational opinions.
“In a multiracial society, when discussing an incident or a public issue, it is inevitable that everyone will judge from their own interests, having their preconceived beliefs, and this often accidentally neglects the feelings of other groups of friends.
“#KITA advocates that through rational dialogue, one can understand the standpoints and concerns of different groups as well as think about the future and solving problems from the common perspective of Malaysians, ” Chong said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 4).
The #KITA platform is also expected to gather more ideas on public issues, especially on youth employment, technological advancement, ethnic dialogue, urban planning, elderly care, and low-income households.
“I believe, being the youth generation, we should link the past and the future, breaking through the echo chamber, receiving ideas from different standpoints, and finding out what they have in common.
“I also hope that in the future, through open dialogues and communications, everyone can reduce opposition and suspicion, reach a consensus and proceed to resolve each other’s concerns, and also start to think about what Malaysia will look like 20 years from now, ” he said.
